Reid Lake Foot Trail System
The Reid Lake area encompasses about 3,000 square acres and has six miles of gently rolling trails that lead around Reid Lake. These trails are well suited for an hour or an afternoon outing in the woods. This is a semi-primitive, non motorized area for foot travel. The U.S. Forest Service manages the area with an emphasis on providing back-country recreation experiences within a working forest environment.

Directions: Take M-72 west of Harrisville about 20 miles. The trailhead is on the left side of the road across from Kohler Road. For more information contact the Huron Shores Ranger Station, (989) 739-0728.

Hoist Lake Foot Trail System
This is one of the most popular foot and ski trail systems in the area because of its biological diversity and varying degrees of challenge. This system captures the essence of the Huron-Manistee National Forest, of which it is a part.

Directions: Take M-72 west from Harrisville about 23 miles to where it meets M-65. Turn left on M-65 and look for the trailhead on the right side of the road. For more information contact the Huron Shores Ranger Station, (989) 739-0728.

Harrisville State Park ~ Cedar Run Nature Trail
Harrisville State Park is one of the state’s oldest state parks. It was established in 1921 and consists of some 100 heavily forested acres and a mile of sandy beach on Lake Huron. The Cedar Run Nature Trail is a two-mile route through the inland forested areas of the park and takes about an hour to walk. This trail offers a good opportunity to identify the many varieties of trees that comprise Michigan’s famous "north woods."

Directions: Harrisville State Park is located on US-23, just south of Harrisville. For more information call the park office at (989) 724-5126.

AuSable River Semi-Primitive Area
The AuSable River Semi-Primitive Non-Motorized Area is a 12 mile segment along the AuSable River that has been designated for special management guidelines preserving a more primitive setting than the surrounding Huron-Manistee National Forest lands.

Directions: At the west end of the River Road Scenic Byway – 22 miles west of Oscoda along M-65, turn north on Rollway Road. A half mile past the South Branch River, turn right onto Curtisville Road and go about three miles. Parking is available at the mid-point access site near Hoppy Creek. For more information contact the Huron Shores Ranger Station (989) 739-0728.
